An Aristotelian Theory Of Consciousness - 1646 Words

The idea of creating a synthetic consciousness has fascinated the human imagination for many a century. These range from the ancient Pygmalion’s Galatea, the mythological golem, Victorian automatons, to our more recent fancies- computers, robots and other Turing machines. Perhaps the reason for this preoccupation with artificial intelligence is actually a quest to better understand our own consciousness. At first sight, the question â€Å"Can a machine be conscious?† appears deceptively simple. However, the answer to this question is entirely dependent on how we define consciousness. We can embark by defining consciousness in an Aristotelian fashion- by its function. Generally philosophers use the term â€Å"consciousness† mainly to describe†¦show more content†¦If we can only observe the behavior of others objectively, how can we be certain that they are conscious? Everyone around us could just as easily be a philosophical zombie, with all the functions and responses of a conscious being, but with no understanding or awareness of their responses. Thus, a metaphysical solipsist could very easily say that discussing whether a machine can be conscious or not is obsolete, because the concept holds no existence in anything but our own mind. The Turing test is a method conceived by Allan Turing to determine whether a mind is conscious. Supposing we create a machine that has been programmed to responds in the exact way that humans do. In the Turing test, both the machine and a human are asked the same questions. A person listening to their answers without knowing which of them was responding each time has to discern which answers are given by the machine. His premise is that if the answers of the machine and the human are indistinguishable, there would be no difference between machine and human in terms of consciousness. However, the Turing test only determines whether we think a machine is conscious by its superficial behaviors, and does not determine whether it is actually conscious Furthermore, we have no evidence that the human we are comparing the machine to in the test is conscious either- the Turing test only measures computational ability. Similarly, a neural activity scan could

The Character of Peter Pan - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1201 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2017/09/20 Category Media Essay Type Argumentative essay Tags: Children Essay Peter Pan Essay Did you like this example? Have you ever dreamed of the place where you would never grow up, where you would never have to worry about your difficulties and live in happiness? The movie Peter Pan will bring you to that world. Peter Pan is a character created by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie. It is about a mischievous boy Peter Pan who can fly and never grows up to live with his Lost Boys and fairies in the island of Neverland. And he likes to meet the children from the world outside. One day, he meets Wendy, a beautiful little girl in London and persuades her to come with him to Neverland. They have a great time until Hook, the leader of pirates, wants to kill Peter Pan to take over the Neverland. And at the end, Peter gives Wendy a first kiss and takes her back to her house because Wendy misses her family and wants to grow up just like other kids in her world. Peter Pan is sad but he knows he ought to let Wendy choose her own life and he makes a promise to visit her in the future. B eing matured, many people wish to get back to their childhood to never grow up again. They don’t have to worry about their lives and think too much to make theirs better. They just play around and have fun, scared of getting old and sick. But a wish is just a wish; everyone will have to pass over their childhood and one chance to grow up only. â€Å"So come with me, where dreams are born, and time is never planned. Just think of happy things, and your heart will fly on wings, forever, in Neverland. † said Peter Pan to Wendy. Certainly, every kid will come when they can make their dreams come true and they will be kids forever. So will Wendy. She thinks Peter Pan and the Lost Boys are her good friends she ever has. The friendship of them comes strong when they together fight for their freedom toward Hooks. Everyone has a dream. At least when they are still kids, because children love to dream. Peter Pan is considered as a giver for children who want to achieve the ir dreams and live with happy things. One of the dreams that the kids make is to be able to fly. And Peter Pan told them to think of happy things, have the happy thoughts because happy thought make them fly easily. And by the help of fairy Tinkerbell, it is much easier. But the children have to leave their parents to fly to Neverland, the world of children. And who will take care of them? Who will feed them? They will never be able to take care of themselves or else because they are forever kids who don’t know how to do anything except playing around and having fun anytime. And then they will start being bored and missing their parents. All of them who are kids want to be with their parents. The movie has expressed the picture of the boys who lost their family, came to live in Neverland. They have been told by Peter Pan and his fairy Tinkerbell to get away from the world outside and never grow up in Neverland. Although the kids will not grow up, they can die and can not ag e. They are not immortal. How sad when the children have no one to take good care of them. Especially Peter Pan, the most lost boy at all. The reason Peter Pan comes to Neverland is because he does not want to grow up and die and also his mother wants him to go to law school like his father. Then Tinkerbell comes and saves him by taking him to Neverland. Later, he comes back to visit his family and they have another baby, they forget about him. The director has also told us in the movie that some family don’t care much for their children and because of that, they lose their sons and daughters. A movie is also a lesson for careless parents. It is not too late to change, but they need time to change at all. The friendship of Peter Pan and Wendy has grown up passionately when Tinkerbell is being jealous that Peter Pan pays all attention to Wendy only. He forgets about Tinkerbell. But at the end, Tinkerbell understands why Peter does that. Just because Peter Pan never meets anyone like Wendy before, he thinks Wendy is his mother rather than a lover. Because Wendy knows how to take care of him and makes him happy. It shows more in the movie when Hooks uses Tinkerbell to catch Peter and his Lost Boys and of course Wendy. She has strengthened Peter Pan when he is getting hurt by Hooks and Peter from losing his flying power now can fly again and destroy Hooks and his pirates. Giving the peace back to Neverland and knowing how special Wendy is in his heart. Even though Peter Pan and Wendy live in two different worlds, but their heart always direct to each other no matter what. Peter will never grow up but Wendy. Barrie has done a great job on Peter Pan novel. He lets the viewers know that some children they want their dreams to come true, but besides that, they still also want to live in their real world with their parents and their friends. The dream must affect the reality that what people are expecting at that period of time. Barrie characters Wen dy as a nice girl who loves her family very much. So Wendy refuses to stay with Peter and brings her brothers back to their world with their parents. Not all the kids are the same; some of them just like their family the best and understand the meaning of having a dream come true might ave them to lose their family. In brief, this is one of the best movies for children and parents also. Kids never want to grow up because they think they will not have more fun when they are older. But the fact is that life of a human exists from birth, aged, sick and death naturally. Barrie has messaged us that we can be able to get away from the age for a certain time but we can not be immortal. We can’t live forever. Peter Pan is characterized as a dream giver to those who want to live everlastingly. But he is also the one to take the dream receivers back to the reality, being normal kids. Peter Pan is totally different from other children, he refuses to be aged. He also represents for a number of children who lack the care of their family. They can be growing up themselves but they will have the same thought as they are young or old. They will not be matured. Barrie wants to point out so that mothers and fathers will know what they should do to take care of their children in the right way. They should know how to direct their kids on the path to the future successfully. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Character of Peter Pan" essay for you Create order

Taming Of The Shrew By William Shakespeare And 10 Things I...

â€Å"Literature has documented the familiar yet profound transformation of sex roles associated with the process of societal modernisation† (Ronald Inglehart, Rising Tide: Gender Equality and Cultural Change Around The World, 2003) Detecting the intertextual relationship between Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare and 10 Things I Hate About You by Gil Junger, has greatly enhanced and enriched my understanding of love and gender and it’s varying ideals throughout the centuries. The 16th century â€Å"was a time dominated by men while women themselves remained meek and submissive — these traits were crucial in their belonging and survival in both their family and society† (Pople, 2015). Kate is denouncing the ability of women as a gender and their capacity to be equals to their husbands - heavily influenced by the Elizabethan cultural idea that women existence is based around serving their husband and being submissive to their dominance. Kat’s changing role in 10 Things I Hate About You embodies the shift in cultural and social expectations of a 21st century female. Kat’s independence and autonomous is a result of movements such as 3rd Wave feminism and the Riot Grrrl movement which were prevalent during the 90s, and the consequent social expectation for a character with self-importance, confidence and assertiveness. Kat expresses to Patrick â€Å"Why should I live up to other people’s expectations instead of my own?† Kat is reaffirming the feminist belief that personal happiness and achievement will always come before satisfying the needs of the opposite gender and impressing others. Kat is demonstrating her self-dependance and aspiration to live in liberation: as her own

Bartleby seemed to put up a brick wall between him and the world. French Headscarf Ban Essay Example For Students

French Headscarf Ban Essay On the other hand, young children from the point of view supporting the ban, might start to discriminate against these protestors, as it can be seen as disturbers of peace. REASON: Moving onto reason. Reason is based on a premise from which it is followed up by a conclusion. A premise, in logic, is called an assumption. So how is this connected to the issue of the ban of religious symbols? Well, the French governments reasoning behind this law was built upon the beliefs of secularism. Secularism encourages that state affairs should be separate from religion, but does this give reason to the ban? The positives of the ban on to which the French government beliefs are set upon are that by separating the state and religion, the government can perform its duties without giving special treatment to any particular group, especially since France is so diverse. The governments reasoning was based on that religion separates people, rather than brining them together. This is based on the idea that by eliminating religious symbols everyone can be looked at the same way, and will be identified as a person from France, rather than by their religion. Instead of France being a mosaic, the government wants a singular face that represents France, which would create a more cohesive society. Moreover, it is believed the law was mainly put in place to stop Islamic extremism. If one can visibly see, for example, the hijab being worn, then people might be pushed towards having a greater conviction in their beliefs, which would lead to extremism. Another reason for this ban was that it would eliminate any racism or prejudice, which is similar to that of the ban eliminating extremism. If a person can not tell whether a person is a Muslim, a Jew, a Sikh or a Christian, then they can not be bias towards them. Thus, all of these reasons come from the same premise of the belief that the separation of state affairs and religion will create a united society. Moving on to how secularism would be a negative in France. Although the argument that the ban would create a united France is valid, it can not be proven as the truth. Religion gives people an identity, and the ban has taken that identity away from them, creating a greater separation between the people that believe in the ban and the people that do not. Thus, the governments belief that the ban will create a united society a fallacy as it is a hasty generalization, meaning it is an invalid pattern of reasoning, as religion is also a way of brining people together. As seen through religious gatherings. Lastly, since the ban, people have only become more faithful and more aware of their religion as seen in the protests; and this could lead to more extremist measures. As people have become more aware of the ban, they have become more exposed to the reality of the situation, which can get them involved in protests, and even riots. RELATED ISSUES: Now, we will move from the TOK world, back to the real world where the issue of the religious symbols ban connects with other similar issues. First Ill be looking at a similar situation to France; Turkey, where secularism is also a government policy. Next, I will be looking at the complete opposite of secularism, which would be a theocracy; I will take the kingdom of Saudi Arabia as an example. And finally, I will be relating the freedom to express ones religion, to the freedom of speaking ones mind more commonly known as the freedom of speech. Firstly, a parallel situation to secularism in France is secularism in Turkey. .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14 , .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14 .postImageUrl , .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14 , .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14:hover , .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14:visited , .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14:active { border:0!important; } .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14:active , .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14 .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uf223b885ef7bda72476cc7e05c91dd14:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Gerald Croft EssayTurkey has been primarily viewed as a Muslim state, but in fact it is a secular. Although the interesting thing about Turkey is that if the government ever imposes religious laws to an extreme, the military can always intervene as they are the protectors of secularism. Secularism has been part of Turkey since the time of Ataturk, who was the initiator of it. Thus, Turkeys situation parallels France, although one difference is that while the government is imposing this belief in France, the military is imposing it in Turkey. Another related issue to the separation of state and religion is the binding of state and religion. This is called a theocracy and we can see one in our neighbor, Saudi Arabia. Instead of the government coming in between peoples beliefs, the government imposes the religious beliefs on people. This is not to say that people do not naturally believe in their Islam, but the laws put in place are extremely restrictive. This issue presents the opposite situation of when the government is too involved in the faith of the people, which limits their freedom of choice, which is limited in Saudi Arabia. An example of this would be the restrictions put on women and whether they are allowed to drive. Although, this is also what the ban in France has done as well, it has limited peoples choice as everyone has to conform to one identity. This freedom of choice can also be connected to another real world issue as the freedom of choice and faith relates to the freedom of speech and speaking ones mind. In Hyde Park in England, there is a speakers corner where previously one was allowed to talk about anything that came to mind; whether it be about the government, or the economy or anything else. Although in recent times the police have been stationed in that area in order to stop extremists from speaking. This is basically taking away a persons freedom of speech, although there is validity in placing police officers there, as a person might get out of hand. This is similar to the ban on headscarves, which is basically a ban on the freedom to express ones religious beliefs. Thus, all of these issues are closely related to each other. Role of Social Media in Business Operations -myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Write about theRole of Social Media in Business Operations for Reddit. Answer: Reflection This particular research has created an urge in my mind to think actively upon the main concept behind the role played by the social media in covering the targeted market by the companies Woolworth limited and Lion Nathan. In my opinion, the focus of this research is upon providing the customers with a comfort of shopping through an online medium. I noticed that there are a various social media platforms which are popular for the companies to encourage their audience in order to increase awareness about the company image amongst their followers. Various platforms which have become important among the customers LinkedIn, pint rest, face book, Reddit and twitter. I found that for attaining efficiency in the overall operations of the business it is essential there is an interface developed between the company and its customers in order to establish customer engagement and communication. This interface is in the form of social media where the company gains an online presence which furthe r helps in catering to the requirements keeping in mind the individual needs (Olivas - Lujan and Bondarouk, 2013). I learned that the demographic barriers can be diminished which consist of the cultural boundaries and difference in geographical conditions of people, and social media helps in increasing the customer base. This knowledge and understanding gained from the research has helped me in knowing about the key companies of Australia which is Lion Nathan and Wools worth limited. I got an overview that Wools worth limited is one of the pioneer companies in Australia and it has been successful in serving its audiences through establishing online services for communication with the target market. Similarly, I could relate the role of social media in handling business operations in the company Lion Nathan. I learned that awareness about this company which is known for its F B services has a provision of catering to the mass market through an online platform for creating an awareness and loyalty for the brand. The potential audience of the company gets an access to benefits like giving reviews, f eedbacks, and enquire about any confusions from the convenience of home with the help of social media (Evans and Cothrel, 2014). The practicality of any information gained by studying the concept is gained when the importance is known from the experience of learning. I have come to realise and understand not only about the company but my general information about the role of social media in carrying out the business operations in the retail and the F B industry has grown as well. I understood that wools worth limited has determined that the most influential tool to target its audience is social media. The company has engaged and influenced its shoppers giving them a comfortable interface to communicate with the company with the help of features like blogs, suggestions and reviews, purchasing online and getting familiarized of the products and their prices online (Ayanso and Anteneh, 2014). This indicates that the company is able to develop a good customer base with the help of being present on social media. Once, I have come to gain enough knowledge that the business operations get simplified with the help of modern technology it has made it simpler for me to understand that the social media presence has made it possible for Lions Nathan in experimenting and making modifications in the wide range of beverages according to the needs of the audience. Being a management student I would apply be able to apply this information learned in daily practices. If I am hired as a management trainee in a MNC, I would be able to relate it to marketing techniques used by the department I work in to increase the customer base and client engagement. By going through the vast literature available through different sources about Wools worth limited and Lion Nathan, I could get enough support from authentic sources and I could analyse that the profitability of Lion Nathan has increased considerably with the help of targeting the audience through an online means. This is because it becomes easy to spread a particular update or a broadcast through social media as the major youth customers who are keen in indulging into food and beverage find it interesting in being aware through an online medium (Gensler, Vlckner, Liu-Thompkins and Wiertz, 2013). I have not only analysed this for the company Lion Nathan, but I got an opportunity to explore and analyse my learning about Wools worth limited. This company too has gained a good response from its customers by giving them a convenience to resolve their queries and problems with the help of online visibility (Rennie and Morrison, 2013). They have used the platforms like twitter and LinkedIn to create their brand awareness, image and loyalty amongst their followers. Also, social media has served as a good medium to promote their companys brand extensively. With the help of this research I could seek, explore, visualise and analyse the information from trustworthy published sources. This has helped me learn about new concepts and marketing terminologies. This research reveals that through the medium of social media, keeping the customer as first priority becomes possible. Wools worth limited has made it realistic for its customers to enjoy their shopping experience with the help of giving convenience to communicate with the company through online presence (Solomon, Russell- Bennett and Previte, 2012). Also, the customer base has considerably increased with the help of social media in comparison with the other strategies of marketing, communication and promotion (Looy, 2015) Similarly, Lion Nathan has been successful in introducing innovation into practice. According to me, the company can easily understand and tap the requirements of the clients through interacting them online which helps it further to customise its service in order to meet the expectations. This research has given me an exposure about the various networks of social media like twitter, LinkedIn, Face book and Instagram which lets the company to connect with the mass market. If the business requires engaging and targeting more number of customers then, social media is the best possible way to establish networking and communication with the users. This has helped me to gain information about the role of new marketing and promotion strategies which are adopted by the companies to create their brand image. Through this research I am able to recognise the implementation of the management strategies in daily activities. Being a student of management, I will be able to apply these techniques when I start working in the marketing department of my future workplace in order to build contacts through social networking sites to generate sales. I have gained an insight about developing the appropriate skills required for becoming a successful marketer. Also, this specific subject of research has opened up many opportunities for me to learn and be interactive as networking through social media required a person to be socially interactive. Not only, have I gained new information but this research has developed skills in me as to initiate connectivity with the target audience. I would like to conclude that this technology has served as a strong technique to carry out the business operations in the retail and foods and beverages industry. These two industries have been successful in developing a good relationship with existent participant customers and new potential customers (Turban, King, Lee, Liang and Turban, 2015). Developing a communication on regular basis and keeping the audience updated with the latest discounts and offers introduced by the companies engages the customers and builds strong relations with them (Fuchs, 2017). Therefore, interaction through social media has laid a strong base for formulating strategies to keep the business operations function smoothly (Jensen, 2013). References Ayanso and Anteneh. 2014. International Journal Mathematics Statistics-Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The International Journal Mathematics Statistics? Answer: Introducation It is always a desire of each and every organization to maximize on their profits and that is the key reasons as to why they are in business. This is the case of a young upcoming start up by the name Good Harvest. The start-up deals in organic farming and as well as sale of their products direct to their customers. The CEO is concerned about the cost of goods incurred by the start up as well as the sale performance and revenues generated by the enterprise. Business analytics can be used to give clear insights on how the enterprise is performing and probably advise on key areas of improvement. Using the one-year data for the company, we sought to present the CEO with the key analysis related to key areas mentioned. Problem definition and business intelligence required Good Harvest has not been to the market for so long; actually they have been barely two years. The CEO of the company would want to improve the performance of the company but he has to do it through key data insights gained from analyzing the one year that is available. However, the CEO has pointed six key research questions he would want to see answered in the report. His main concern is to understand; What are the worst and top selling products? Do payment methods have variation in terms of total cash received? Do location of the product in the shop have impact on total sales generated? How do sales performance compare for the different months in a year? How do profits of the company compare for the different months in a year? How do sales performance compare for the four seasons? What are the worst and top selling products in terms of sales? Descriptive analysis was used to answer the question. We present two tables; table 1 is for the top selling products while table 2 is for the worst selling products. Table 1: Top selling products Product Class N Minimum Maximum Mean Std. Deviation Water 12 15 6500 1866.88 2541.63 Fruit 54 3 17276 1048.68 2469.41 Vegetable 76 4 5554 871.49 1226.30 Dairy 66 10 10814 619.05 1473.79 Drinks 59 5 11910 574.25 1729.24 Coconut Water 11 21 1794 514.23 562.67 Table 2: Worst selling products Product Class N Minimum Maximum Mean Std. Deviation Stocks Sauces 6 20 49 32.29 12.17 Salad Greens 1 25 25 24.50 Snacks 2 20 21 20.33 0.74 Spices 14 4 129 18.99 32.06 Herbal Teas 4 2 54 17.96 24.37 Juicing 1 5 5 5.00 Six product class had average sales amounting to over $500; these products are categorised under the top selling products. They include; drinks, water, fruit, dairy products, vegetables and coconut water. The bottom six products in terms sales performance include stock sauces, salad greens, spices, juicing products, snacks and herbal teas. The mentioned products have average sales that are less than $50. Is there a difference in payments methods? Organizations do accept different payment methods. There are those which have also restricted payments from some payment methods. Apparently Good Harvest accepts cash payments, credit payments, Visa Card payments as well as MasterCard payments. It would be to the interest of the CEO to understand if there is any of the listed payment methods that brings collects more cash than the other. That is, the CEO would be interested to know whether there is significant difference in the total cash received from the four mentioned payment methods. We the four methods into two categories. One group comprised of cash and credit while the other comprised of Visa Card and MasterCard. Two hypothesis were then tested. Hypothesis 1: H0: There is no significant difference in the total cash received between the cash and the credit payment methods H0: There is significant difference in the total cash received between the cash and the credit payment methods An independent t-test was used for this since cash and credit payments are independent of one another. Independent t-test is used to compare the means of two unrelated groups just like in this case. Table 3: t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming Equal Variances Cash Credit Mean 412.18 604.64 Variance 20811.55 42140.48 Observations 359 354 Pooled Variance 31401.02 Hypothesized Mean Difference 0 df 711 t Stat -14.5002 P(T=t) one-tail 0.000 t Critical one-tail 1.647 P(T=t) two-tail 0.000 t Critical two-tail 1.96 From table 3 above, the p-value was found to be 0.000; this value is less than 5% level of significance hence we reject the null hypothesis and conclude that there is significant difference in the total cash received between the cash and the credit payment methods. In fact, it can clearly be seen that a lot of cash was obtained from the credit payment method as compared to the cash payment method. Hypothesis 2: H0: There is no significant difference in the total cash received between the Visa and the MasterCard payment methods H0: There is significant difference in the total cash received between the Visa and the MasterCard payment methods. An independent t-test was used for this since cash and credit payments are independent of one another. Independent t-test is used to compare the means of two unrelated groups just like in this case. Table 4: t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming Equal Variances Visa MasterCard Mean 576.31 152.55 Variance 50355.11 12000.98 Observations 353 53 Pooled Variance 45418.44 Hypothesized Mean Difference 0 df 404 t Stat 13.49813 P(T=t) one-tail 0.000 t Critical one-tail 1.65 P(T=t) two-tail 0.000 t Critical two-tail 1.965853 From table 4 above, the p-value was found to be 0.000; this value is less than 5% level of significance hence we reject the null hypothesis and conclude that there is significant difference in the total cash received from MasterCard and that received from the Visa Card. In fact, it can clearly be seen that a lot of cash was obtained from the credit payment method as compared to the cash payment method. How does location of the product in the shop affect the sales performance? The hypothesis tested for this question is given below; Hypothesis 4: H0: There is no significant difference in the mean total sales between the different product locations in the shop H0: There is significant difference in the mean total sales between the different product locations in the shop. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test this hypothesis. ANOVA is applied where we have more than 2 factors to be compared. We had five factors to be compared hence ANOVA was ideal test to be used. ANOVA results are presented in table 5 below; Table 5: Analysis of variance (ANOVA) for the total sales versus product location Total Sales ($) Sum of Squares df Mean Square F Sig. Between Groups 134299725.02 4 33574931.256 37.176 .000 Within Groups 929333380.82 1029 903142.255 Total 1063633105.84 1033 From the ANOVA table above, it is evident that the null hypothesis is rejected (p-value 0.05) and as such we come to a conclusion that the total sales differs depending on the location of the product in the shop. How does sakes compare based on the different months of the year? We tested this using ANOVA where the factors were the months and the net sales was the dependent variable. The hypothesis tested is given below; Hypothesis 5: H0: There is no significant difference in the mean total sales between the different months of the year. H0: There is significant difference in the mean total sales between the different months of the year. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test this hypothesis. ANOVA is applied where we have more than 2 factors to be compared. We had twelve factors to be compared hence ANOVA was ideal test to be used. ANOVA results are presented in table 6 below; Table 6: Analysis of variance (ANOVA) for the net sales versus months Net_Sales Sum of Squares df Mean Square F Sig. Between Groups 1399993.23 11 127272.11 1.303 .221 Within Groups 34584296.36 354 97695.75 Total 35984289.58 365 From the ANOVA table above, it is evident that the null hypothesis is not rejected (p-value 0.05) and as such we come to a conclusion that the net sales does not significantly differ depending on the month of the year. How does gross profits compare based on the different months of the year? Hypothesis 6: H0: There is no significant difference in the mean gross profits between the different months of the year. H0: There is significant difference in the mean gross profits between the different months of the year. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test this hypothesis. ANOVA is applied where we have more than 2 factors to be compared. We had twelve factors to be compared hence ANOVA was ideal test to be used. Results are presented in table 7 below; Table 7: Analysis of variance (ANOVA) for the gross profits versus months Profit Total Sum of Squares df Mean Square F Sig. Between Groups 35370.95 11 3215.54 3.867 .000 Within Groups 294370.01 354 831.55 Total 329740.95 365 From the ANOVA table above, it is evident that the null hypothesis is rejected (p-value 0.05) and as such we come to a conclusion that the gross profit significantly differs depending on the month of the year. How does sales performance compare between different seasons? The hypothesis tested for this research question is; Hypothesis 7: H0: There is no significant difference in the mean net sales between the different seasons. H0: There is significant difference in the mean net sales between the different seasons. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test this hypothesis. ANOVA is applied where we have more than 2 factors to be compared. We had four factors to be compared hence ANOVA was ideal test to be used. Results are presented in table 8 below; Table 8: Analysis of variance (ANOVA) for the net sales versus seasons Net_Sales Sum of Squares df Mean Square F Sig. Between Groups 487761.04 3 162587.01 1.658 .176 Within Groups 35496528.54 362 98056.71 Total 35984289.58 365 From the ANOVA table above, it is evident that the null hypothesis is not rejected (p-value 0.05) and as such we come to a conclusion that the net sales does not significantly differ depending on the season. Discussion of the results and recommendations Interesting findings came out of this study. First we were able to identify both the top performing products as well as the worst performing products. Some of the top performing products were drinks, water, vegetables, dairy products, fruits among others while the main products that were identified to perform poorly included; stock sauces, salad greens, spices, juicing products, snacks and herbal teas. Results showed that month of the year had no influence on the net sales of the company however it had significant influence on the gross profits of the company. Seasons also didnt have significant influence on the net sales. Location of the product in the shop had significant effect on the sales performance of the company. Based on the listed findings, it is evident that cost of goods varies depending on the month of the year hence affecting the gross profits of the company. It would therefore be advisable for the CEO of the Good harvest company to try understanding how the cost of goods compare within the different months. For instance, are the labour costs high in some months? Are the cost of materials higher in some months? Answering these questions will help the CEO to plan when to hire workers and when to make purchases of the materials to avoid doing it when the costs are high. By this the company will be able to maximize on its profit while minimizing of the expenditure costs. The CEO should also put much emphasis on ensuring that the display of the products is looked at in a more appropriate manner. Results showed that sales performance of the products varied depending on where the product was located in the shop. References Bagdonavicius, V., Nikulin, M. S. (2011).
